SRLV team conquers 276-mile challenge to raise £300,000 for charity

Four partners from SRLV have completed a challenging fundraiser for Teenage Cancer Trust, cycling a staggering 250-miles from London to Paris and rowing 26 miles, the equivalent of the English Channel, along the River Thames.

The group, made up of Richard Rosenberg, the longest serving Trustee of Teenage Cancer Trust, and fellow partners Laurence Finger, Charles Bradbrook and Steve Wren raised more than £300,000 for the charity, surpassing their original goal of £50,000.

In June 2023, the team, all over 65 years-old, tackled their last large fundraiser. Led by Richard, they set off on their bikes from Richmond Park and arrived in Paris two days later. After travelling back to London, they took part in an English Channel-equivalent row along the River Thames, from Richmond to Putney and back again.

Reflecting on the challenge, Richard Rosenberg, said: “We all really enjoyed this challenge as our last big adventure. We cycled approximately 80 miles per day to get to Paris which luckily went smoothly and it was special to be joined by friends along the way. The day of the row was not easy, but we all seemed to get a boost of extra energy knowing it was the final day. We’re so pleased with how much we’ve managed to raise for such an incredible charity – thanks to everyone who has supported us.”

Every day, seven young people aged 13-24 hear the words “you have cancer” and Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to providing the specialist care they need. The money raised will go towards funding specialist nurses, youth support teams and hospital units within the NHS to provide the very best care and support during treatment and beyond, making sure cancer doesn’t stop young people living their lives.

Over the years Richard, Laurence and many other men and women from SRLV have undertaken more than 20 major cycling and trekking challenges in the UK and abroad to raise well over £1 million for Teenage Cancer Trust and our other chosen charities.

Huge congratulations to Richard and the team. The cycle and row was tough, but they showed great determination and we’re so grateful for their effort and time again. Their passion and positivity makes a huge difference to young people’s lives.
