HONING THE BEST GAME PLAN
With our roots in the sports and entertainment industries, we support a talented portfolio of UK and international sports professionals throughout their careers, including elite athletes, footballers, golfers and managers, and sports management agencies.
Our sports clients are very busy people. Many of them train and compete overseas so they need specialist advice on international tax and appearance royalties, along with all-round financial and business management support, including personal tax returns, withholding taxes, royalties and tax advice on new contract signings, sponsorship deals and paid television appearances. We also have particular expertise in advising UK clients on international transfers and moving abroad, and sports professionals from overseas transferring to UK clubs.
PROTECTING YOUR LONG-TERM WEALTH
Earnings for sports professionals at the peak of their careers can be substantial which, for many, happens while they are still relatively young and financially inexperienced. From the impact of competition schedules, illness and injury to world events, incomes can fluctuate considerably over time. We’re always thinking ahead to protect our clients’ financial interests, anticipating and asking questions to flag potential issues and solve problems. Whether it’s tax advice on wealth planning and investments or detailed cash flow planning and income forecasting, we ensure that their wealth is maximised throughout their professional careers and the years beyond.
Not all sports professionals retire completely. Many go on to enjoy successful careers in other related industries, such as sports management, coaching, television presenting, film, digital, premium hospitality and luxury retail. Part of our focus is to guide these clients through all the potential business opportunities they have as their careers develop. Being specialists in a number of relevant creative sectors, puts us in a unique position to advise on the breadth of opportunities that arise.
Sports professionals have relatively short careers. Only a few go on to work in management or broadcasting, so it’s important for them to consider wealth planning early on.
