Alan Wallis

I have spent more than three decades as a specialist valuer of private company shares, unlisted businesses and media-related intellectual property (IP). Leading EY’s UK valuation practice’s Media & Entertainment sector team for 15 years, I worked closely with record companies and publishers, individual artists and their managers, music lawyers, banks and financial institutions on both sides of the Atlantic.

I have valued hundreds of music publishing and recording catalogues of all sizes, as well as artist and writers’ contracts, music-related brands, such as trademarks and band names, and worked with some of the best known and iconic names in pop music around the globe.

Building a reputation as the go-to valuation specialist led to roles as an expert witness, supporting several legal teams in complex, high profile litigation and matrimonial matters for iconic names in the UK, and testifying in the US tax court.

After leaving EY, I founded and ran Mojo Music & Media – a music publishing company. We acquired 30+ catalogues and signed numerous administration deals. The catalogue, containing more than 700 charted hits, was sold in 2023 to Concord Music Publishing.

2024 brings fresh opportunities and I have joined SRLV as a consultant to expand specialist catalogue valuation and expert witness services whilst adding to the team’s existing capability in more niche areas, such as publishing rights, ancillary rights deals and music trademarks.

I am a huge fan of popular music and feel privileged to have built a career working in an industry I know and love. My technical background, combined with experience of running a music publishing company and doing my own deals, means I can offer clients a different perspective in music valuations; a meticulous, analytical eye “in the weeds” that they can trust when it’s necessary to place a market value on an asset.
